As Wireless Network operators roll out their HSPA services and with the many new mobile terminals being released incorporating higher rate HSPA capabilities, the number of subscribers using HSPA to download large volumes of content is also increasing.
As a result the importance of verification of the mobile terminal application software will also increase to ensure that the user experience is of a quality that will be expected.

Checking the user experience, is not only the checking of the data throughput when downloading large files/content but also checking that the mobile terminal reacts in the way that is expected when a download is interrupted by another service such as a voice call, video call or SMS/MMS.

To address these test requirements the capability of the MD8470A signalling tester has been further enhanced by the support of HSDPA and HSUPA functions along with the new IP Performance Monitor.

The MD8470A now supports all UE categories that are specified in Release 5 and Release 6 of the 3GPP specifications.

	Using this new MD8470A functionality allows: HSPA testing to be carried out at a fixed rates or at a rate that is determined by the UE Category and CQI value Perform service interruption testing, such as incoming voice call, video call and SMS/MMS, during HSPA data communication. Verification of data throughput by using the new IP Performance Monitor. The new built-in IP Performance Monitor capability supports monitoring of data throughput performance in a real time environment and supports W-CDMA/HSPA and GSM throughput tests. For HSPA the actual data throughput performance can be verified at a fixed rate or at a rate set decided by UE category and CQI.

	The IP Performance monitor provides an efficient development environment for optimizing terminal throughput by allowing the user to freely configure the display time range and to check throughput performance at a freely definable marker position and average throughput performance within a specified range.
