News & Press Releases - [Main Index] Anritsu achieves world’s first demonstrations of combined LTE simulation systems for handsets and base station testing. 2008-06-23 Luton, UK, 23 June 2008 – Leading communications test equipment manufacturer Anritsu today announced the pre-release introduction to the market of leading test systems for next-generation Long-Term Evolution (LTE) mobile phone networks.

By developing both the Network Simulation and the UE Simulation together, Anritsu has a unique position to understand and contribute towards inter-operability and ensuring good signalling connection between base stations and mobiles. This accelerates product development and helps maximise coverage of the relevant test cases required by 3GPP standards. LTE is the name for the latest mobile phone protocol, superseding 3.5G, under development by industry standards group 3GPP. Mobile handset and network equipment manufacturers are now in the early stages of developing LTE devices, while 3GPP finalises the LTE standards. It is expected that LTE equipment will first be deployed in 2009. Anritsu has historically been the first to market with test equipment that is compliant with emerging Global mobile phone standards such as GPRS, 3G and 3.5G. This has provided mobile phone handset and network equipment manufacturers with a crucial time-to-market advantage by facilitating the early testing of product prototypes. Now Anritsu is again providing early access to 3GPP standards based test equipment. In the current versions being demonstrated, the MD8430A is already compliant with the 3GPP’s evolving LTE standards. This supports the development efforts of customers which are working now on prototype LTE products. Jonathan Borrill, Director of Strategic Marketing at Anritsu, said: ‘Anritsu is now introducing to its beta customers our advanced and stable hardware and top quality protocol test software. Our product already provides compliance with the main LTE standards which the industry is focussed on addressing today. We are currently demonstrating to the industry our full capability for 2x2 MIMO and 64QAM modulation to achieve 100 MBits per second data rates, and Anritsu will continue to track the 3GPP’s standard-setting process with the MD8430A. ‘Testing of LTE equipment is going to be challenging to the industry – manufacturers have to get to grips with end-to-end IP networking, high-speed data throughput, and tough latency and scheduling issues. The earlier the industry has the test tools it needs, the sooner it can find the solutions to these technical challenges.’
